Another quarter, another chance to find out if Palm’s grand experiment in rebirth is going to continue. Dec 17th is the day and while we’re clueless about what the money will look like, we eagerly anticipate finding out how many devices Palm has sold.
Palm has historically refused to break out the ratio of types of smartphones they’ve sold, instead just giving us the total. This quarter, however, the number of Windows Mobile-based Treos and PalmOS-based Centros is likely to be a much smaller margin of the total than usual, which means that the total number of devices sold this quarter will be our best indication yet of whether or not Palm is gaining traction. It will also set up a nice baseline for comparison for when the Pre gets released on Verizon early next year.
