Talkin’ Palm – Edition 51

July 30th 2010 | Posted by Annie Latham

Since our last edition, Palm’s app catalog topped 3,000 (It’s quality, not quantity, right?), a clever fan-crafted Pre commercial earned high praises, AT&T dropped the Pre Plus to $99.99 online with activation, and HP decided to kick in a $50 gift card with the purchase of AT&T Palm phones.

Talkin’ Palm – Edition 50

July 23rd 2010 | Posted by Annie Latham

You may notice that this edition has a slight tweak to the logo. Because so much of the news that rolled in this week had a strong HP slant, it was clear that the time had come to evolve the logo. So let’s talk HP+Palm!

First off, on Thursday, HP’s Jon Rubinstein and Todd Bradley are scheduled to talk at Fortune Brainstorm Tech.  Per the write-up by Robert, "the topic will undoubtedly be Palm and webOS." He also noted that HP has invited folks to join in on the web feed for free by using coupon code BTVTWT at the event’s website.

Closing the book on the HP’s purchasing of Palm, Busines Insider, Dan Frommer wrote a story that talked about the other suitors (Apple was mentioned).

Speaking of closing, in an internal memo, HP announced it is shutting down its Cupertino campuses and consolidating in Palo Alto.

Talkin’ Palm – Edition 49

July 16th 2010 | Posted by Annie Latham

We’ve hit the slowest sports days of the year. But the tech world never stops. Apple’s PR nightmare continued with Consumer Reports weighing in. On the Android side, new devices are hitting the shelves. And the Palm Pre seems to be everywhere… banner ads galore.

Demonstrating that Pre/Pixi owners like to have fun, there was a bit of app talk. Plus, at the MobileBeat 2010 conference in San Francisco this week, Palm and HP represented — with Phil McKinney, the vice president and CTO of HP’s Personal Systems Group giving the keynote address.

So let’s talk Palm!

Talkin’ Palm – Edition 46

June 25th 2010 | Posted by Annie Latham

Deals on webOS apps, a nice comparison of how the Sprint Palm Pre stacks up against the Sprint HTC Evo 4G, more comings and going at Palm, plus the "Flash" story are just some of the things folks are talkin’ about in this edition.

To start, our sister site Android Central posted a very comprehensive comparison of the Sprint Palm Pre and the HTC Evo 4G. This was done by two guys, Craig Froehle and Don Ferguson, who are experts in the Palm OS of old and the webOS of new.

Talkin’ Palm – Edition 45

June 22nd 2010 | Posted by Annie Latham

Since our last edition, the buzz continues to be about webOS versus the other options (i.e. iPhone 4, HTC EVO 4G, etc.). People are wondering what HP-Palm’s next steps will be product-wise. On the promotion front, Palm is in the midst of their Summer Road Trip with stops last week in Chicago followed by Madison, Wisconsin.  Also, paying attention to sporting events (World Cup, U.S. Open, NBA Finals, MLB Inter-league) via smartphone is a huge past time for many.

Talkin’ Palm – Edition 44

June 11th 2010 | Posted by Annie Latham

All kinds of news slid in at deadline, like Palm settling the class action suit and Apple "poaching" UI designer Rich Dellinger. Otherwise, the bulk of the "talk" seemed to center on how the EVO compared to its stable-mate, the original Palm Pre.  With the Pre celebrating its birthday, many found themselves at a crossroads — stay with webOS or leap to Android?

Digital Daily’s John Paczkowski also noted the story of Rich Dellinger becoming the Senior User Interface Designer at Apple:

"Dellinger, who was instrumental in developing Palm’s core Mojo app framework as well as the webOS notification system, has returned to Apple (AAPL), a company he previously worked for from 1999 to 2006. His new position: Senior user interface designer. Just what, exactly, he’ll be doing in that capacity remains to be seen, but I imagine it will have something to do with Apple’s newly rebranded iOS and its system alerts."

It has been relatively quiet since our last edition. Perhaps, it should be thought about as the calm before the storm as the smartphone winds swirl and swirl:

Talkin’ Palm – Edition 42

May 28th 2010 | Posted by Annie Latham

The arrival of the Palm Pre Plus in the UK (Palm Pre Plus and Pixi Plus Available Soon for O2 Customers in the UK ), buzz about HP’s first webOS tablet and the possibility of a HP webOS printer,  and more reviews of the Palm Pre Plus were the main topics talked about this week. There was also quite a bit of interest in the SIM unlock now being available for AT&T Palm Pre Plus.  And speaking of AT&T, we mentioned last week how the Pixi Plus will be available on June 6.  The big question is whether the next day, Steve Jobs will be unveiling the next generation iPhone at the Worldwide Developer’s Conference AND if AT&T will remain the exclusive carrier.
