Your favorite webOS games [PC Brain Trust]

We’re in the thick of Palm’s “half-time” sale where everything in the App Catalog is an easy-on-the-wallet 50% off of its normal asking price,  we’re on the cusp of the PDK Hot Apps contest, and what better way to spend the money that’s undoubtedly been burning a hole in your pocket then on some great gaming titles. We asked you what your favorite games are and you showed up en masse to let us know.  The results are interesting: there’s a good spread between big name titles from likes of EA Games and Glu Mobile, and games from indie developers such as Paratrooper and Defensive Warfare.  Head on past the break to find the games, both paid and free, that you and your fellow readers like the most.

Asphalt 5

So, you want to know if the Pre and Pre Plus can really handle 3D gaming with aplomb, but don’t feel like forking over the cash to find out for sure? Gameloft has an answer for you, and it comes in the form of a demo version of the excellent racing game Asphalt 5. Available for free from the App Catalog, Asphalt 5 Free gives you a few minutes of play on a full functional track. Weighing in at nearly 66 MB, you can be sure you’re getting a full experience, though it is still limited to a few minutes with no save functionality. And of course, if you like what you see, Asphalt 5 Free comes with a link straight to the App Catalog where you can part with $6.99 (plus applicable taxes) for the full game.

New in the App Catalog for 07 January 2010

App CatalogSo yesterday might have been a big day at CES 2010 for Palm. We got the Palm Pre Plus and the Pixi Plus, and they’re going to be exclusive to Verizon. We got the Pre headed to SFR in France. We got Flash, a webOS App Gallery on PreCentral, video recording, and webOS 1.4. But what’s exciting, and what we get right now, is new apps. And those new apps come with 3D gaming, ala the iPhone. In fact, Palm’s new Plug-in Development Kit allows developers to make C and C++ apps that will work beautifully on webOS. As such, developers like EA, Gameloft, and Glu are here and showing off what that delicious hardware is really capable of. Curious what games are available? Well, while you’re waiting for the App Catalog to load, we recommend you hope right past the break and catch a glimpse for yourself of our daily list.
