All kinds of news slid in at deadline, like Palm settling the class action suit and Apple "poaching" UI designer Rich Dellinger. Otherwise, the bulk of the "talk" seemed to center on how the EVO compared to its stable-mate, the original Palm Pre. With the Pre celebrating its birthday, many found themselves at a crossroads — stay with webOS or leap to Android?
Digital Daily’s John Paczkowski also noted the story of Rich Dellinger becoming the Senior User Interface Designer at Apple:
"Dellinger, who was instrumental in developing Palm’s core Mojo app framework as well as the webOS notification system, has returned to Apple (AAPL), a company he previously worked for from 1999 to 2006. His new position: Senior user interface designer. Just what, exactly, he’ll be doing in that capacity remains to be seen, but I imagine it will have something to do with Apple’s newly rebranded iOS and its system alerts."

It has been relatively quiet since our last edition. Perhaps, it should be thought about as the calm before the storm as the smartphone winds swirl and swirl:
Palm buzz continues as the company rolls up on the one year anniversary of Palm Pre & webOS.

So let’s talk Palm…

If you’re anything like Dieter, then you’ve already headed out to your local AT&T store to pick up the GSM Palm Pre Plus. If so, then perhaps you read our earlier report that the $149.99 price tag includes a Touchstone thrown in the mix for in-store purchases – as long as you buy at a corporate store.
If you don’t live near a store and have to e-shop it then I’ve got good news since deal is for online customers too. If you view the Pre Plus on their smartphone page (it’s the one almost near the bottom under the iPhones… no, under the Blackberrys… keep going, AH there!). You’ll see that on the right hand side of the Pre Plus page that you’re presented with a Bundle package that includes the Touchstone charging dock. Select that to ensure you get the deal.
Meanwhile, going to the store Dieter and a few others have reported that getting that free Touchstone was more troublesome than expected since there wasn’t a proper SKU for the freebie in the system. Bummer!
Thanks to jescandalo for the tip!

The Palm Pre Plus on AT&T has solid hardware, mature software, and most importantly finally gives US-based GSM lovers a webOS option. We’re going to focus primarily on what’s new and different with the AT&T Palm Pre Plus as compared to previous versions of the device. If you’re new to webOS, the good news is we have plenty of resources for you to learn what this device is all about.

The trending topics for this Edition include the arrival of the Palm Pre Plus at AT&T, the possibilities of a webOS tablet in the not so distant future (like Q3), and some accessories/apps worth noting.
AT&T Gets Palmed on May 16
At least, that’s the buzz here at PreCentral and throughout the blogosphere. Digital Daily’s John Paczkowki was quick to write about the high price:
AT&T said today that it will begin peddling the Palm (PALM) Pre Plus on May 16. Price: $150 after contract and mail-in rebate, which seems a bit high for a device that can be purchased from Verizon (VZ) for $29 along with free Mobile Hotspot service, or from Amazon (AMZN) for one cent.
For those wanting a GSM Palm Pixi Plus, the rumored date is June 6th.

After a few months of guessing exactly when Palm’s dynamic smartphone duo would launch on AT&T, we’re finally starting to get a good bead on when folks might be able get their hands on the GSM versions of the Pre Plus and Pixi Plus. The latest number comes from an anonymous tipster [and has been confirmed by Engadget] who told us that May 16 will be the official launch date, confirming earlier reports. Oh, and AT&T’s MicroCell will drop nationwide at the same time, if you’re into that sort of thing.
Thanks, anonymous!

An anonymous tipster has sent in screenshots and impressions from the upcoming AT&T Palm Pre Plus. We still don’t have a firm release date for the device, but we’re expecting it sooner rather than later (EverythingPre suggests May 14th might be the day, we have also heard the 16th recently as well.)
Our tipster’s main impression: it’s fast. The device is running webOS 1.4.2, which could account for some speed improvement. While it’s likely that part of the speed improvement is due to there not being much on the device, our source says that it definitely seems faster than even the Verizon Palm Pre Plus. Also better: the keyboard, we’re told the keys are super responsive. Build quality also seems better, with the slider feeling much smoother than the original Pre. We’re definitely eager to see if both impressions pan out on a production device after a couple of months of use.
YPMobile also gets kudos for being preloaded – it’s an app we’re fairly fond of ourselves. There’s not much more to say except we’d love to see it released soon. Oh, and that the above default wallpaper is completely gorgeous. Check out a handful of screenshots after the break.
Thanks, Anonymous!

Life may move fast, but the wait for the Palm Pre Plus and Palm Pixi Plus on AT&T certainly doesn’t. AT&T feels your pain, so they’ve set up a a promo section for the little webOS devices that could where you can learn about the phone and – most importantly – punch in your email address to get the scoop on when it’ll be available for purchase.
Not listed on the promo pages – the pricing. At announce, the Pre Plus and Pixi Plus on AT&T were set at $149.99 and $49.99, respectively. Now that Verizon has undercut those prices by a country mile, we’re wondering if AT&T and Palm will stick to their guns on that pricing.
Thanks to grandebob for the tip!
