Evernote was an early favorite on webOS and an example of some of the momentum webOS had from major app developers in its early days. Since then the app had seen a rough patch, but as we reported in October the company is hard at work on an updated version. Kudos, Evernote.
To that end they just posted a new beta, 1.3.5 Beta 1, in their forums. It brings notebook filters, an updated list view, editor improvements, and plenty of bug fixes. For reasons beyond our ken they’ve opted not to put their app up in Palm’s Beta feed, but if you know how to install an IPK (hint: WebOS Quick Install or Preware), you can head on over to the Evernote forums and grab it.

The bleeding-edge Facebook beta client app developed by Palm today received an update to version 1.4, adding in new features to take advantage of webOS 2.0. Right now the only feature that those of us on webOS 1.4.5 can take advantage of is the Open New Card command, available at the bottom of the navigation pop-over. Tapping that bar opens a new Facebook card that duplicates the view of the source card. Additionally, a meta-tap (gesture area + screen tap) on any link within Facebook will open up in a new card.
The app notes also indicate that Just Type integration is present, as Dieter demonstrated in his 10-minute webOS 2.0 overview, though that integration is not something we’ll be able to take advantage of until webOS 2.0 and its Just Type feature is made available. Additionally, the "shake to reload" feature now has an on-off toggle in the app’s preferences, if, you know, you use your webOS phone inside a rock tumbler or something.

Update: That didn’t take long – the non-beta official version of the Facebook app has also received the 1.4.0 bump, bringing along all of the above-discussed features.
Thanks for the tip, Isaac!

Well isn’t this serendipitous? Just as we started a week’s worth of Facebook for webOS Tips, Palm has dropped an update to the FaceBook for webOS Beta, updating it to 1.3.1. As RanGT notes in our forums, there doesn’t seem to be much in the way of newness here, but Palm does write that there are "some bugfixes and performance improvements" to be had. We are detecting increased snappiness all around.
If you haven’t upgraded from the regular version of FaceBook to the Beta, we suggest you join us in the future – our own Adam Marks tells you how here.

Update: Looks like the official, App Catalog version of Facebook is up to 1.3 now, bringing landscape viewing, filtered news feeds, and more to the masses. If the Beta version scares you (it shouldn’t, but we don’t judge), snap it up. Thanks foggylemon!

Palm is pushing out an update to the Facebook Beta Client app, bringing it to version 1.2.32. Included in the update: performance tweaks, bug fixes, and the ability to remember your last selected feed on the next launch. This comes just a few days after the last update (version 1.2.30). And says Palm on Twitter, it’s close to a final release for the general Facebooking public. Sweet, eh?

Facebook Beta for webOS just now has been updated from 1.2.5 to 1.2.30 (we assume that’s a ‘dot thirty,’ aka bigger than .five
) and it’s brought a few new features that we’re digging, many of which we saw teased just a couple of weeks ago:
- The ability to filter the news feed by category of updates you actually care about, as well as toggle comments on and off.
- The ability to browse the app in landscape mode
- It looks like all notifications are properly marked as ‘read’ when you view all notifications
- We are also seeing a lot of very nice and subtle animations throughout that look new to us
If you have the Beta installed, just check for updates to get the new version. If not, head on over here and click the handy-dandy install link to get a download link texted to you.
Update 1: Palm’s own Justin Ried has just posted a changelog, after the break.
Update 2: We also have Palm’s own Developer Center Blog chiming in with an interesting bit about how they have implemented a custom way to present a large list by adding paging buttons – a feature we wouldn’t mind seeing in other apps.

Palm’s beta feed is chock-full of goodness — the excellent BFG Maps is one such example — and one of the latest finds comes way of a previous PC Brain Trust article where we asked you what your favorite social media applications were. Zipsquare is beautifully styled, dead simple, and fast; the first scene you see after launching the application is a list of nearby venues, that when clicked on, give you a modal drop-down menu allowing you to check-in, ping Facebook and Twitter, and add a customized message. There’s a "+" that resides in the bottom left of the screen that allows you quickly add a venue and a "friends" tab that doesn’t offer any functionality just yet.
I wouldn’t say that Zipsquare is a replacement for Zhephree’s excellent Foursqare (now at version 1.5) currently available in the App Catalog, as its missing a good deal of features in comparison. Rather, it’s a great companion for when you want to quickly hop in, check in to a venue, and hop out. Head on after the break to see a video of Zipsquare in action!

We have covered the issues with the GPS on Verizon Wireless’ Pre Plus in great detail (see here and here for just a few of our stories), and our forums have been filled with complaints, suggestions and patches all working to allow apps other than the VZ Navigator program reliably get correct GPS fixes on the Verizon devices. Yesterday, based on a suggestion I made in the forum, webOS developer James Harris (creator of Flashcards and other great apps) quickly put together GPS Fix, now available via the Palm Beta feed.

Attention Facebook Beta Client users: Palm’s dropped a preview image of what we can expect in a coming release: full and landscape support with selectable/filtered views of the news feed, the ability to clear all notifications at once, and other unspecified updates. Drop date is unknown, but we’re excited regardless.
Can we get a “huzzah!”?

Landscape viewing in the Facebook for webOS app has been conspicuously missing since its major rewrite hit the App Catalog some months ago, but you can bet that feature is in the cards in upcoming versions. It turns out that not only does the recently released beta version 1.2.5 support tagging, it also actually "supports" landscape viewing.
We don’t know whether to call this feature or bug, but here you go: to force landscape mode, simply navigate to any picture and orient the phone sideways. After you’ve done that, perform the back gesture while the phone is on its side and viola: Facebook in landscape.
The downside to this is that once you’ve forced landscape mode, you’ll have to quit and relaunch the app to get portrait mode back.

The Facebook for Palm beta just keeps getting better. With version 1.2.5 now available for download, webOS users can better get to photos from their notifications (previously it was hit or miss, with a bias towards miss). You can also now tag photos from within the app, like them, and as before, leave scathing comments and hearts made out of numerals and mathematical symbols.
Facebook Beta 1.2.5 is available for download from the Palm beta feeds. Right now.
