When it comes to headsets, it all comes down to audio quality and controls, and those sadly are the two areas where the LG HBS-250 bluetooth headphones fall short. While fairly beautiful in design execution, the HBS-250 headphones suffer from annoying static and frustrating controls that made it less than a joy to use. They do have at least one redeeming characteristic: the headphones are somewhat comfortable to wear.

While pretty much every pair of bluetooth headphones offers at least basic functionality to go along with playing music, the Samsung WEP870 Convertible Bluetooth Headset is one of only a few headsets that manage to bring basic stereo music functionality to the traditional headset form factor. It doesn’t hurt that the modular design means you can get music in multiple ways. And it’s also good that this whole combo both looks and sounds pretty decent.

Bluetooth headphones have long been criticized, sometimes rightfully so, for their poor audio quality, but the Altec Lansing BackBeat 903 bluetooth headphones stand head and shoulders above the competition. Sporting a flexible design that combines street-style over-the-ear headphones with in-ear buds, the BackBeat 903s are comfortable to boot. If they sound so great and feel darned good, there’s got to be a drawback, right? Well, for all that awesomeness there’s absolutely no sound-isolation that makes the “OpenMic” system a gimmick at best.

The MOTOROKR S305 Stereo Bluetooth Headset sports sleek looks and a low price, but audio quality is lacking. Wrapped around my head you’ll find the Motorola MOTOROKR S305 Bluetooth Stereo Headphones, and you won’t see any wires connecting them to my Pre. Huzzah! They’ve got a relatively secure fit and a minimalist design that artfully hides the fact that there’s a battery and all sorts of transmitters and receivers inside to make it work. For bluetooth headphones they’re relatively inexpensive, but that becomes evident when you realize that the S305 disappoints in the most important area: audio quality.
