The votes are in and we’ve got a winner. In the week voting was open we received more than 7000 votes, but it came down to a dead heat right to the very end, with the top two entries separated by a scant 46 votes. But there can only be one winner (okay, there are three). Of the top ten finalists, the top vote getter will get a Palm Pre 2 (SFR, an unlocked device, or a Verizon device when available), while numbers two and three will receive $50 for the PreCentral Store.
Without further ado, the winner of the PreCentral Mock-Up The Next Palm Device Contest is the Palm Pre HD, by bhughes719! Coming in at a very close second was Jose Barajas’ Palm Superior HD, with Virox’s Pre 2, Palm Pad, and Palm Watch trifecta slotting in at third.
Congratulations to all entrants, finalists, and winners – there was a lot of great work submitted and we wish everybody could have won. And Palm, take note, as popular as the portrait slider keyboard is, there’s clearly also demand among the electorate for horizontal sliders and slate devices.
Check out the winning entries again after the break, and feel free to take a gander at all the other entrants in the original entries post. Congratulations again to our winners!

Well folks, the time has come for the next phase of our fun little contest. After receiving several dozen entries of varying caliber, we’ve finally whittled the options down to pick ten finalists. The winner, however, is up to you and your voting skills (i.e. you ability to click with a mouse). The most excellent mock-up that receives the most excellent votes will net the winner the next Palm device, which as it turns out will be a Palm Pre 2, in which ever flavor the winner prefers (Verizon or unlocked AT&T band developer phone (or SFR if you’re feeling French)). Vote getters number two and three will received a conciliatory prize of $50 to spend at the PreCentral Accessory Store, while everybody else gets a slap on the back and a job well done.
After the break, check out all the entries, including our ten finalists and ten honorable mentions, and place your vote!
Update: The voting ends at midnight, eastern, tonight, so we’re giving you one last chance to vote if you haven’t yet. We won’t say who’s ahead in the poll, but we will say that it’s a virtual dead heat between the top three – so tell your friends to get their vote on!

We’re sort of in limbo right now, waiting for Palm to announce, well, anything. We’ve had rumors, minor leaks, and insinuations here and there, but not a full-on iPhone 4-style leak. So what the next Palm device might look like or do is still kind of up in the stratosphere.
As such, we’ve decided to have a little fun. We want you to show us what you want the next Palm device to look like. And we want you to be creative. It doesn’t have to be a Photoshop job. You can make a video, whittle a model out of pine, shoot us telepathic visions of what you see (bonus points for that, by the way), or whatever else your heart desires.
Just two requirements. One: be visual. Two: be creative. To encourage this creativity, we’re going to make this whole deal a contest: show us what you think the next Palm device should be and we’ll put the best up to a vote. The top vote getter wins… drumroll please… the next Palm device. Whatever it is. Sweet, eh? Head on past the break for the sweet hot details.

Let’s face it: it’s Wednesday afternoon, you’re at the office, and you’re not getting anything done now that you’re deep into the post-burrito food coma. Clearly, the thing to do is crumple up some virtual paper and toss it into a virtual can. Do it with Office Paper Basketball between now and midnight tomorrow, September 30th and you’ll have a chance to win one of five prizes!
How to enter: download and play Office Paper Basketball and get 21 baskets or more in a row. When you do, a special code will appear. Email that code to the email address that also pops up. The first two people to do it will win a $25 coupon to our accessory store. Three more people will win a $10 coupon.
Details: Make sure you’re using version 1.05 or higher, the contest code isn’t in earlier version. Not open to Smartphone Experts employees or contractors. Not open outside the US (sorry folks). One coupon per person. Coupon doesn’t apply to shipping costs (sorry about that, too). Don’t quit the app when you see the code, it won’t come back unless you make 21 baskets again. We love you.

Our friends at Palm have put out a call for suggestions for a mascot, so let’s help them out, so we no longer feel jealous about that charity auction for a plush version of the Android logo. What we need is a webOS mascot, per Palm’s tweet:

So how about it, PreCentral readers? What would you suggest as a mascot for Palm (keeping in mind the rejected octopi or trademarks caveats)? Let’s see them! We’ll pick five favorites, put them up to a vote, and give the winner a $50 coupon to the PreCentral store! Photoshop submissions are welcome; send your images to contest@PreCentral.net.
We’ll also be sure to let Palm know about this. Maybe your mascot will be chosen for future greatness (and cute animated commercials)!
UPDATE: We know it takes some time to put this stuff together, so we’re going to give you until 12 AM Eastern on Wednesday, June 23rd to get your entries in. Take the time you need to make it awesome!

Syntactix, makers of the YouView Visual Voicemail Client, are holding a little contest to celebrate a year of webOS on the market. See, along with their visual voicemail that works with YouMail, there’s an option of getting voicemail transcripts, an option that costs anywhere from $3.99 to $17.99 per month.
Instead, if you buy YouMail in June and forward your receipt and/or Tweet about it, you’ll have a shot at ten 50-per-month transcription packages good for the next year.
Given the relatively difficulties of getting Google Voice working properly on webOS, it’s not a bad option for you visual voicemail addicts.
Syntactix has the full details on their contest page, thanks Greg!

Post your apps on Twitter, sure, but right here in the comments: tell us all your favorite Palm Pre memory from the past year. Let’s warm some hearts, people!
