As we already know, Palm is set to present at the Game Developers Conference in sunny San Francisco next month, talking about the future of gaming on its webOS platform and releasing the PDK (Plug-in Development Kit) in beta form to the masses. This is exciting stuff, to be sure, but it should be noted that developers from the WebOS Internals group have been bringing us binary-coded games for some time now, even before the PDK was a twinkle in our eyes.
This means two things. First, that developers interested in writing their own binary based applications or porting others over to webOS don’t have to wait for the official PDK to become available to start coding. The WebOS Internals PDK, using the same underlying technology as Palm’s PDK, enables developers to port games now and get a head-start on development against the official Palm PDK.
Second, that there’s a laundry list of great (and free!) emulators and games available through Preware and WebOS Quick Install thanks to their hard work, including but not limited to:
This is all in addition to the myriad of patches, tweaks, and other enhancements made possible by the team. If you dig their work, don’t be afraid to hit that donate button.

Before you ask, no, those screenshots aren’t photoshopped. DOOM has returned to the webOS center stage and bringing along with it many future possibilities.
Many will remember how back in June we covered the story of how it was possible to, with a bit work, get DOOM working on the Pre. Well, the webOS has come a long way since then. In webOS 1.3.5, we all learned of the existence of base OpenGL ES files, but it turns out much more was added.

I have some fond memories from long ago of playing Doom at a friend’s computer. I remember at the time that I though the game had the best graphics ever. Most mobile phones and even those cheap kids games often have better graphics today.
The iPhone can play Doom and Pre owners looking to frag some [...]

As the title might suggest (bonus points if you know where the quote comes from), an industrious home brewer named Sargun has managed to port PRDoom, an open source clone of the original Doom video game, onto the Palm Pre. Though he ran into some complications due to differentiating SDLs, he ultimately managed to complete the port without too much trouble, going so far as to call the process "fairly trivial."
We have to say we’re impressed, and always up for playing some Doom, though the Pre’s small button sizes could add an entirely new dimension to the challenge. If you’re interested in following in Sargun’s footsteps, he’s posted the how-to on the Pre Dev Wiki, though we would not recommend it for the inexperienced or faint of heart (it will most likely void your warranty, and you run the risk of wiping your precious Pre).
If you’ve successfully managed to get Doom running on your device, or you’ve ported a different game over, let us know!

Well, that didn’t take long at all. First, forum members over at PreCentral dissected a backup webOS image and second, now one of the modders managed to get original Doom to run on his Pre! …
