Sure, we’ve given you the full work-up on webOS 2.0 already and we did it based on the OS running on a Palm Pre 2, but that was a pre-production unit and so we couldn’t really get into how the hardware felt. However after today’s Oprah Moment at Developer Day we now have a full production unlocked GSM Palm Pre 2 in hand.
No, it’s not the Palm Pre 2 hacked onto Sprint, instead it’s the standard North American version, unlocked with support for 3G on AT&T’s bands (or EDGE-only on T-Mobile). It’s available now for $450 to regular folks and $250 to developers.
Read on for some very quick first impressions and, of course, a photo gallery!

The App Catalog is awash in a flood of terrific Twitter apps, from the excellent Tweed (this blogger’s current favorite) to the innovative and visually stunning TweetMe for webOS. Not only does a Twitter app have to look good these days to compete in the ‘Catalog, it has to perform blazingly fast with a cutting edge feature set, and Yak ($2.99 in the App Catalog) has what it takes to be a serious contender. How does it stack up against some of the newer and established names? There’s only one way to find out: by reading on after the break.

The Palm Pre Plus on AT&T has solid hardware, mature software, and most importantly finally gives US-based GSM lovers a webOS option. AT&T is now the third US carrier to pick up Palm webOS devices and they’re starting it off with the Palm Pre Plus at $149.99 with a 2-year contract. The Pre Plus will be available May 16th, the Pixi Plus will land later. We’ve only had a review unit for a couple of days but since there’s so little changed from the Palm Pre Plus on Verizon that’s enough time to give you a quick review of how the AT&T version fares.
We’re going to focus primarily on what’s new and different with the AT&T Palm Pre Plus as compared to previous versions of the device. If you’re new to webOS, the good news is we have plenty of resources for you to learn what this device is all about.
Read on to see how the AT&T Palm Pre Plus stacks up!

Jawbone headsets have been regarded as the gold standard in both audio quality and design for years, a tradition that the Jawbone Icon Bluetooth headset continues with aplomb. Going back to the original wired Jawbone headset from 2004, Aliph’s headsets have always been at the forefront of aesthetics and noise cancellation. The new Icon series of headsets does not disappoint, picking up a more compact design while still packing in even better noise cancellation technology. Even better, the Icon recently snagged a firmware update that adds in A2DP for Bluetooth music listening. As always, the newest Jawbone is easily one of the best headsets available on the market.

Palm has updated the Pre for Verizon, slightly tweaking the hardware and upping the RAM available to run apps. The Pre Plus is exclusive to Verizon and in addition to the noted hardware updates, the Pre Plus also will have an innovative and crazy-cool piece of software available for it called "Mobile Hotspot," which turns the Pre Plus into a mobile WiFi router. The Palm Pre Plus arrives January 25th on Verizon, exclusively, for $149.99 after a $100 mail-in rebate and a two-year contract.
We’ve had the Palm Pre Plus for a few days now and our initial take is quite simple: it’s definitely better than the original Pre, but is it so much better that current Sprint subscribers should switch to Verizon? Read on to find out!

This week marks six months since I received my Palm Pre as one of Palm’s 10 Real Reviewers. Since then, I’ve been writing about the Pre on Twitter (where I tweet as PalmPreLawyer), on Facebook, in person and (thanks to an invitation from Dieter Bohn) here on PreCentral. While I’ve published some shorter Real Reviews over the past months, I thought it might be useful to provide a more complete story of my experiences with the Pre and webOS.

The Blueant Q1 Voice Controlled Bluetooth Headset takes the voice-control formula from its older brother, the Blueant V1, and crams it into a slimmer and much more attractive design. The end result is a stylish headset with some handy controls quite literally available at the sound of your voice.

The reviewers have been weighing in on the Palm Pixi over the last couple of weeks. Most complain about the Pixi’s speed (due to its slower processor). Others rip on it because there’s no WiFi. The screen size and resolution was bothersome too. I found that what I needed to do is take a step back and put myself into the mind of the Palm Pixi’s target audience.
The Pixi isn’t a smartphone for power users or gadget aficionados. That’s clear. In fact it seems like the Pixi IS supposed to be targeted to:
- Smartphone newbies
- Young people who want to step up from their feature phone
- Centro owners looking for a replacement in a similar price bracket
So how does the Pixi stack up for this target audience? I’ve got a review of just that, after the break!

The Palm Pixi is a tiny smartphone with enough features and elegance to woo even the most die-hard feature phone user, but current Pre owners will want to stick with what they have.
The $99 Palm Pixi will be unleashed upon the world this Sunday and after using one full-time for two days, I can say it’s a great smartphone for anybody who hasn’t made the jump past feature phones. The Pixi comes in a tiny, almost bite-able form-factor that’s immediately appealing — all the more so because inside that little frame is the elegance and power of webOS.
For current smartphone owners, however, there are a few compromises that, all combined, lead me to suggest that most those interested in webOS should still opt for the more powerful Pre.

There are headsets that are stylish, and headsets that sound great, but the Plantronics Discovery 975 Bluetooth Headset is one of the few that successfully combines the two qualities. Sporting the diamond-shaped base of the preceding Discovery 925, the Discovery 975 has a sleek boom packed with microphones and windscreens that give it surprisingly good voice quality. It’s sleek, it sounds good, but is it comfortable? Yes. In fact, it’s not hard to say that the Discovery 975 is one of the best headsets on the market.
