The Missing Sync updated for two-way calendar PC synchronization

February 14th 2010 | Posted by Derek Kessler

Outlook sync to Pre

Who says PC can’t have fun too? The folks over at Mark/Space may be of the Macintosh-inclined variety, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t going to work to make their products fully capable for their Windows-using brethren. To that end, Mark/Space has released a new version of The Missing Sync for webOS that brings two-way calendar synchronization to the PC side of their software. Previously two-way calendar sync was only supported for Mac users.

Change an event name on your webOS phone and sync it back to your computer. Add a location and adjust the time on your PC and then push that back to your phone. Life with webOS and Outlook just got easier. The Missing Sync for webOS is available from Mark/Space’s website for $39.95. A free webOS companion app needed to trigger and manage the sync is available in the Palm App Catalog. Future updates to The Missing Sync promise to bring Tasks and Notes synchronization to both PC and Mac users.

doubleTwist update brings Amazon fun to PC

December 18th 2009 | Posted by Derek Kessler

doubleTwistWindows users can finally get in on the integrated Amazon MP3 that doubleTwist users on Macs have been enjoying for what seems like ages. The latest update to the media sync software brings it to version 2.6 on PC (Mac users get a feature-similar 1.0b14), and in addition to the expected bug fixes and Amazon MP3 integration also adds supports for the unannounced Google Nexus One. Seeing as it’s just an Android phone, adding support for one more Android device couldn’t have been a tall order for doubleTwist. doubleTwist added support for the Palm Pre and Palm Pixi soon after they launched.

With Amazon MP3’s music store integration doubleTwist can serve as a full-fledged iTunes sync and store replacement. Its playback controls are a bit lacking, but we have little doubt that ramping doubleTwist up to complete iTunes/Windows Media Player replacement is very much on doubleTwist’s radar.

Mark/Space posts development tracker for PC Version of The Missing Sync

August 11th 2009 | Posted by Derek Kessler

The Missing Sync for Palm Pre for WindowsWhen The Missing Sync for Palm Pre debuted back in June as a Mac-only application, the question we heard from many of you was “Where’s the PC version?” Fret not, for Mark/Space is hard at work on such a program, and to assuage your local synchronization hunger pangs not fulfilled by PocketMirror they have posted a development tracker for The Missing Sync for Palm Pre for Windows XP and Vista where frequent postings will allow you to follow along as new features are added to the program.

As of this posting, they have managed one-way synchronization of your Outlook contacts and calendars (more comprehensively than the Palm Data Transfer Assistant) with two-way sync promised down the road, folder synchronization, and iTunes playlist music transfers. Next up on their development list are full two-way contacts synchronization and photo transfer capabilities. Mark/Space has also started a private beta program to test out the latest builds of the PC version of The Missing Sync. The Missing Sync is coming to the PC, it’s just not here yet.

How to: Sync Notes and Memos on the Pre (Sort of)

July 7th 2009 | Posted by Derek Kessler

No Note Sync

Want to sync Notes and Memos from your Pre to your Desktop and vice versa? I wish I could tell you that you could actually synchronize the notes from the Memos application on your Pre, but then I’d be lying to you. For whatever disappointing reason, the Pre in its current form does not support the synchronization of Memos and there’s not much that we can do about that. There are at least four different ways to deal with this. The first way is to just deal with it. The built-in memos application is both easy-to-use and plenty fast, plus it comes with type-to-search. But… it doesn’t sync with anything.

And then there’s Evernote, currently in free beta form in the App Catalog. You can take the notes in Evernote, in addition to snapping pictures to storing tasks, and all of it will sync with your PC, Mac, and even Evernote’s web services. But, as is so often the reality of betas, Evernote is a touch slow and occasionally buggy.

Have a Microsoft Exchange account? Then you can sync your notes, so long as you’re willing to make them notes attached to your tasks. And we know what you’re thinking, it’s kind of hacky. And we agree, it is hacky, and we shouldn’t have to stoop to using applications Tasks to sync our memos. Palm, are you listening?

Lastly, there’s email. If you’re a Gmail user, you can send messages to yourself with the subject prefix of “Note:”, and then using Gmail’s filters and labels you can have your notes automatically sorted into folders on the Pre. It’s a great magical sync and lets you use the Pre’s fantastic email program, but like the aforementioned Tasks notes syncing, it’s a hacky work-around that we should have to deal with.

So there’s four solutions, and we’re sure there’s more out there. We want to know, how do you sync your memos?

The Missing Sync for Palm Pre arrives

June 11th 2009 | Posted by Derek Kessler

The Missing Sync for Palm Pre

Less than a week after the Palm Pre landed in thousands of eager palms nationwide, the first local desktop synchronization solutions are coming. Perennial saver-of-Mac-Users Mark/Space has released the first beta of The Missing Sync for Palm Pre (with a PC version on the way). The Missing Sync creates a new Synergy profile for Calendar and Contacts and will sync with iCal and Address Book, or Microsoft Entourage if you so desire. The Missing Sync will also make it easy to sync music (via iTunes), photos, documents, movies, and more. It also comes with a Safari component that will send your bookmarks to a new bookmarks app on the Pre (which will then launch the links in Web).

The Missing Sync for Palm Pre also comes with proximity sync of your Synergy information over your Wi-Fi network, meaning you never have to think about syncing with your computer – it just does it. For a limited time, The Missing Sync will be available as a free beta application and can be found in the App Catalog on your Palm Pre, and the desktop component is up on Mark/Space.com. When The Missing Sync for Palm Pre comes out of beta, it will be available for $39.95.

June 9th 2009 | Posted by Shane McGlaun

If you are a Mac user, you may be used to missing out on some of the software and other devices that work with Windows only. For the Mac user and Pre fan, one of the things lacking was the ability to synchronize to a Mac outside of iTunes.

Windows users could synchronize the Pre locally [...]
