We had rumors of the Pixie/EOS for a long time now. These rumors were about a second webOS device with a candybar figure, probably with the same layout as the Treo Pro. And Palm never aknowledge any of this rumors, until now it would seem.
According to Tech Crunch, a source close to the company – [...]
Palm has officially unveiled its second webOS phone, the ultra-thin Palm Pixi, just three months after the launch of the Pre. Coming in at just 10.85 mm, the Pixi is thinner than the Pre by 6.1 mm and even the iPhone 3Gs by 1.45 mm. Essentially slotted as Palms replacement for the aging Palm OS Centro, the Pixi will be launching exclusively on Sprint, though Palm has yet to reveal availability dates (by the holidays) or pricing (rumored to hit be $99).
So what makes the Pixi so special? For one, its really quite small, as mentioned above. Unlike as was rumored earlier (when we thought it was the Eos and Pixie was the internal codename), the Pixi will have a full 8 GB of storage and does indeed have a smaller screen than the Pre. Also notable, as you can see in the picture above, the Pixi is not a slider phone like the Pre. While it will feature EVDO 3G data on Sprint, the Pixi will not come with WiFi.
The Pixi will also launch with a variety of back covers available, coinciding with the New Work City Fashion Week. The special limited edition “artist series” covers will come in a variety of textures and designs and will be Touchstone-enabled.
Also coming with the Pixi will be an updated Synergy, which will bring LinkedIn contact sync and Yahoo contacts, calendar, and IM into the mix. A new webOS Facebook app is also in the cards (pun only partially intended).

As reported at TechCrunch, Palm’s second webOS smartphone, the Eos (codename: Pixie) will be unveiled this week. The debut will take place as part of Fashion Week in New York City. The Eos is expected to be approximately the same size and layout as the Treo Pro, though will run webOS and sport a capacitive touchscreen a touch shorter than the Pre’s. The cellular carrier the Eos will land on is still somewhat of a mystery. It has been rumored to be landing on AT&T, though there has been no conclusive evidence to support the suspicion. It is possible that the Eos may also be the Palm C40 phone spotted in Sprint’s inventory system.
The timing is just about as unusual as Palm’s launch of the Pre just days before the iPhone 3Gs became widely available. Tomorrow Apple will be putting on its annual music event where they are expected to unveil a revised iPod lineup. As always, stay tuned to PreCentral.net for all the latest.
Thanks to fresh for the tip!
Yes, we know, some analysts are just clueless, it makes us wonder how anybody believes them. But hey, somebody has to do the guessing, right? Well, here we go with more about analysts, guessing, and a date that a lot of us have been waiting for.

Recently we had news from PhoneArena about two mystery Palm devices apparently heading to Verizon Wireless. Now, Precentral has news from an anonymous tipster, about two more Palm handsets, this time not for Verizon but Sprint. Both of these new devices have a price of $1, which more likely is a placeholder, so I wouldn’t [...]
Following up on the word of Palm devices appearing in Verizon’s database, we’ve been sent the above screenshot of a Sprint inventory management system, showing not one, not two, but three plot-thickening Palm devices. The first is the 100 we already know – the Palm Pre at $549.99. But after that are two more models we haven’t seen: the 120 and C40. Interestingly, the 120 is quite similar to P121VZW we saw in the Verizon screens (like the P100 for Sprint mirrors the P101VZW for Verizon). Both the 120 and C40 have placeholder prices of $1.
So now the question we have to ask is what’s what? If the P100 is the Pre, perhaps we should reason that the P1XX series is going to be the Pre and its derivatives, which could mean that the P121 and P120 are a variation on the Pre, perhaps one with more memory (an easy change to make), or possibly a no-camera version. Going with that hardcore logic, the C40 would be an entirely different model, presumably the Eos, which we have heard will land on Sprint. If true, this would mean that the Verizon inventory screen indicates that they will be receiving two versions of the Pre and not the Eos, at least not right away.
Thanks to our awesome – and anonymous – tipster!
Analyst alert: We have another rumor of an end of year launch for the Palm Eos. A recent article in Barrons Tech Trader Daily cites Macquarie Research analyst Phil Cusick, who suggests that Palm will be shipping the new device in time for shoppers this holiday season. Cusick says that the Pixie/EOS will be aimed at competing with the $99 iPhone.
Now that the Eos has just been rumored for Verizon and we’re already expecting it for Sprint and AT&T, it looks like T-Mobile is the only major US carrier without some rumored webOS loving on the horizon.
We here at PreCentral have previously received anonymous word that the Eos would start landing at Palm HQ in October, so a 2009 launch is starting to feel more likely – whatever the carrier.
If Palm can manage to get the Eos out the door in large numbers, at a small price, and on multiple carriers, do you think it could be a bigger hit than the Pre?

Certainly by now most, if not all of you know the code name for the Palm Pre is P100. Now one of PhoneArena’s most loyal tipsters has just shared some “spicy info” with them. As you can see on the images below, there’s no doubt they are Palm devices, but there are only clues on [...]
PhoneArena.com has six shots of Verizon inventory system screens displaying info on phones Big Red hasn’t yet announced. There’s the BlackBerry Storm 2, the HTC Touch Pro 2, the Samsung Omnia II, and the Convoy U640. But we know you don’t care about those. What’s important to you is that there are two Palm devices listed in this inventory system. Yes, two: the Palm P101VZW and Palm P121VZW. Considering that we know the Sprint Pre to be the P100, it seems reasonable to assume that the P101 is the Pre for Verizon, though we have no clue if the number bump means that the hardware has been changed. And P121? There’s only one other upcoming Palm device that we’ve heard of, and that’s the Eos, presumably the P121 indeed will be the smaller slate-style webOS phone.
Astute readers will note that both screens list in stock quantity as “0” and the sliver of the pricing line in the P101 seems to just be filled with zeros (and no, that does not mean it will be free). But if you wanted any more proof that Palm would find its way back to Verizon wireless, well, you’re going to need the word from CEO Lowell McAdam.
