Palm are tipped to be preparing webOS 1.1, the first significant upgrade to the Pre’s software platform, for release within a month. Palm’s Spanish arm have have unveiled the first official image of the GSM Palm Pre, complete with tiny HSDPA icon. The phone is confirmed to be an exclusive to carrier Movistar, the network owned by Telefonica who also own O2 in the UK.

The Palm Pre could see its first Eastern European launch in September, according to Romanian distributor IRIS. The company’s marketing director, quoted recently in Ziarul Financiar, has suggested that the Pre will arrive by late September, priced at roughly $550 subscription-free.

Pre Central is getting word from a tipster with a webOS emulator that the Pre is going to support IMAP IDLE. This means that users on GMail will have near instantaneous reception of new emails. That’s right, it’s getting pushed down to the phone from the GMail servers.
