Problem: you have to buy a new RFID equipped prepaid card for your local transit system, but the last thing you want is yet another card in your wallet. P|C forum member zcharat has a solution: melt the card down in a vat of acetone, extract and transplant the RFID chip into a touchstone-equipped back plate. Done as a weekend science project, zcharat was able to successfully perform the operation and get the whole shebang working without disrupting the normal operation of the phone (the RFID chip evidently doesn’t interfere with the Pre’s on board radios or antennae) or impairing the functionality of the touchstone back plate. It’s an ingenious idea, and one that’s sure to ignite the imagination of many a DIYer.
