Now that we’ve taken the full tour of other smartphones and seen everybody else’s reaction to webOS, it’s time for me to chime in with a few finishing thoughts on webOS for the Smartphone Round Robin.
Obviously I’m not going to ‘review’ anything here – in addition to my colleagues’ excellent overviews, we already have a full Palm Pre Review, Palm Pre Plus Review, Pixi Review, Pixi Plus Review, and Guide to webOS here on PreCentral. Instead I want to focus in on one particular issue that’s been weighing on my mind for the past few months – multitasking on webOS.
I’ve said this a few times and after taking a tour of the other major smartphone platforms out there I think this more strongly than ever: no other smartphone platform has as elegant or intuitive multitasking as webOS.
Read on for my final thoughts there and also to see the winner of the Smartphone Round Robin contest for PreCentral!

Today’s special catch-up edition of the Smartphone Round Robin here at PreCentral.net has us looking at the Android platform. I’ve started up a thread with a few relevant questions over at the Android forums at Android Central. If you’re interested, I sure could use the help thinking about the platform and, yes, every day you post over there is another chance to win an Android phone of your choice.
PreCentral peeps: Matthew Miller of Nokia Experts is taking a look at webOS this week. If you haven’t, go on over to this thread and have a chat with Matthew about your platform-of-choice. There’s a Palm phone in the offing there too and by the time the contest ends, the Pre Plus and Pixi Plus will definitely be on the table!
My video hands-on with Android after the break!

The Smartphone Round Robin officially begins… now! This week I’m taking a look at the iPhone – comparing it to webOS. I have a lot on my mind as I consider these two platforms: does it matter that webOS is behind on features and graphical capabilities? How important is true multitasking? Is the notifications system on webOS essential or just a gimmick? Which platform is more ‘elegant?’
As a part of that conversation I’ve started a thread over at The iPhone Blog Forums to get feedback from iPhone users. Stay tuned for a thread in our own forums to help out Phil Nickinson of WMExperts.
For now, though, we have a video after the break for you and a few comparison photos as well. What you’ll see is my latest hands-on with the iPhone and it’s a discussion with Rene Ritchie of The iPhone Blog about the strengths and weaknesses of the iPhone platform as compared to webOS. I’ll be spending the rest of the week thinking and working with the iPhone, chatting with you all, and generally getting ready for Friday’s review. Stay tuned!
