Strangely, the only new stuff in the App Catalog was old stuff – nineteen updates, but no new apps. So we held steady from Friday’s number of 843 apps, but as you may have seen from the Smartphone Round Robin videos posted last week and this week, that number is around double that in the Windows Mobile Marketplace. Of course, we’re still well behind the iPhone and Android app stores, and a few thousand behind BlackBerry App World, but then again Palm CEO Jon Rubinstein expects “several thousand” new apps with the release of the Ares development platform and the App Catalog’s emergence from beta. In the meantime, we’ve got a list of the updates, and it’s after the break for your perusal.

- Integration with your Google Finance account
- Customization, customization, customization. Don’t like the mini-graphs? Toggle ‘em off. Would you rather the program updates your stocks every 30 or 60 seconds instead of every 10 seconds? Go ahead and change the interval. Find the background distracting? Disable it.
- The ability to easily add, remove, and rearrange stocks in the watched stocks list.
- A way to easily search for stocks. Simply type the first few letters and potential matches will come up.
- On device caching of stock info for offline viewing.
- Access to news feeds. View news items from a variety of feeds, from US Markets to Earnings, IPO’s to Money & Government, and more.
- The ability to share stock information and more via email and SMS
It’s good stuff, and if this program is any indication of the quality of apps that’ll be coming our way as the Catalog picks up speed, I think the platform will shape up very nicely.
Interested in learning more? Like many other developers, the ones behind Top Stocks smartly utilize the PreCentral forums as one one of their main points of contacts with their users. It makes sense; the forums are a bustling place, and feedback can be nearly instantaneous.
Both Top Stocks ($4.99) and Top Stocks Lite (the evaluation version) can be found in the App Catalog.

Palm hath giveth. After the dual update let-down that was Monday, Tuesday came in full force with not only a whole basket full of updates, but with several new apps to boot. It’s a long list (which we like to see), so it’s all posted after the break. Just click that “Read the rest of this entry” button down to the right to check it out.

You may notice a theme in today’s new apps drop: translators. All told, there are more than a dozen supporting a whole slew of languages. We have a feeling that the timing is suspect given the recent landing of the Pre across Europe, but without paid apps for those countries. All told, there are 41 new apps (and one updated), so to save your monitor from breaking we’re going to list them all after the break.
Palm has also created a new Twitter account to let the world know when new apps land: @palmnewapps. And now that there are new apps, they’ve started pushing out updates to the account and are listing every new app as it lands.
