Coming soon to the webOS App Catalog will be version 1.5 of Pivotal Labs’ popular Twitter client Tweed. As posted on the company blog, Tweed 1.5 will come with integrated TwitVid uploads. It’ll be a beta feature, as webOS in its current form doesn’t have any mechanisms for retrying failed uploads (which can happen with large files like videos over cellular, so Pivotal Labs recommends you do video uploads over Wi-Fi). A demonstration video has been already posted to TwitVid.
Tweed 1.5 will come with a number of other changes and fixes, including updates to the Load More feature, external links, and notifications. Additionally, the price of Tweed is going to be temporarily cut from $2.99 to $0.99. This is due to problems with the free version (Tweed Trial), on which development was stopped with version 0.9.16. Changes made with webOS 1.4 rendered Tweed Trial inoperative, so Pivotal Labs is going to withdraw the app and will temporarily reduce the price of the full Tweed to $0.99 to allow for an easy upgrade path for Tweed Trial users.

The developers of Bad Kitty have been teasing us with details of their new Twitter client for a few months now, and my curiosity has been piqued the entire time. The app has finally hit the App Catalog selling for a cool $2.99, and I’ve finally been able to put it to the test. In the ever-growing sea of Twitter applications in the App Catalog, these programs have to have compelling feature sets and an excellent UI to stand out. Does Bad Kitty make the grade?

While Twitter was designed from the ground up for mobility, the world’s largest social network – Facebook – was not. Even so, with various incarnations of mobile sites and an ever-expanding portfolio of mobile apps, Facebook’s mobile membership has grown by leaps and bounds. So much so that Facebook has passed the 100 million monthly mobile users mark. [via: MobileSyrup] While the majority of Facebookers still use the social network through their desktop machines, more and more are leveraging the power of their smartphones to access Facebook on the go.
With that in mind, we though we’d take a moment to highlight the Facebook options available to webOS users. There are more than a few choices out there, so we’ve got the list waiting for you after the break.

Entrepreneurial magazine Fast Company recently revealed their list of who they are calling the “Geeks of the Year”, (the year being 2009). And on that list is one Jon Rubinstein, who we know around here as the CEO of Palm, Inc. Fast Company’s reasoning behind bestowing such an, uh, honor on Rubinstein? Well, he was more or less responsible for ushering the Palm Pre and webOS to the masses and catapulting Palm back into the public eye. Rubinstein shares the Fast Company Geek of the Year list with the likes of Jens and Lars Rasmussen (the brains behind Google Wave), Star Trek director/producer/reimaginer J.J. Abrams, and Twitter cofounders Evan Williams and Biz Stone.

We all know that the first webOS phone has been making the rounds with high scores in other places, like Popular Mechanics for example. There, the Palm Pre was among the 10 Most Brilliant Products of 2009, I definitely have to agree with them. And now, the Pre is also one of the hottest on [...]

Palm has made quite a splash in the media this year, and the Pre has generated so much buzz since its announcement back in January that its been tweeted about enough to get it onto the Top Twitter Trends of 2009, joining the likes of Windows 7 and Tweetdeck in the Technology category. iPhone …not so much.
Other big topics to flood the twitterverse in 2009 were #swineflu, Chuck Norris, and the Teen Choice Awards. These are truly exciting times, people.

While there is a plethora of webOS Twitter clients to choose from, if none of those are to your liking there’s always the Twitter website. Right now, the mobile Twitter page – m.twitter.com – is a bit lacking in its functionality, especially for high-powered mobile browsers like those on the iPhone, Android, and webOS platforms.
Realizing the power of these mobile WebKit browsers, Twitter has been working on an enhanced mobile portal. The recently launched preview site – mobile.twitter.com – leverages the power of the browsers while also delivering a cleaner more polished Twitter experience than the current mobile site. The new mobile site is still a work in progress (search doesn’t appear to be fully functional at this time), but once it is complete it will transition over to take the place of the current mobile portal.

Before everyone starts to make fun of this, or worse, starts to bash me because of this, I got to say that I am in no way dissing the second webOS phone. This is, apparently, a true story, something that happened to a guy named Peter Ha.
According to Peter, he came home and found out [...]

With the weekend’s webOS 1.3.1 update came a whole slew of apps updated to match. Several new apps, including the much-awaited Facebook app, were included in the app drop, which was more reminiscent of carpet bombing than a precision strike. Yeah, there are that many updates. So many that the list extended off my computer screen, spilled over the edge of my desk, and splattered all over the floor. It’s a mess, and all it’s waiting for you after the break.
