Version 2.8.1 exports in the most standard of standard video formats - mp4 - and shrinks the video down to the 320x480 resolution of the Palm Pre. Of course, usage of TiVo Desktop Plus is contingent upon your owning a TiVo box, and we know that most of you don’t have such things tucked away in your A/V cabinets. So you might be asking, what about me? After the break we break down a few of the options for the rest of us.

With the release of webOS 1.4, your application’s page in the App Catalog can now link to a YouTube video about your app. If you place a YouTube link in this field, the video thumbnail will be displayed on the App Catalog page.

When a potential customer clicks on the link, the device’s YouTube application will open and play the video, giving you the opportunity to show off your application’s potential.

We do ask that you follow the Palm Application Content Criteria when creating your video. Adding a YouTube link counts as a meta-data update, so it will be reviewed.

So, get ready to get creative with video – we’d love to see videos for every application in the catalog!

It seems like a long time since we found out about webOS 1.4 and the video capabilities coming with it for our Palm Pre handsets. And apparently the lucky owners of the GSM Pre phones are already getting the update while we still wait here in the US to get our webOS update.

On the screenshot above you can see the new and improved call log — the image is from a UK GSM Pre as you can clearly see. There are already a lot more screenshots of the webOS 1.4 update on the web, but I will hold on until I get my update to post more “screen captures”.

A Precentral forum member on vacation in Vietnam has already the new webOS version (1.4) on his German unlocked Palm Pre. He even took a video with his webOS device and uploaded it to youtube, the video is not long and is in Spanish (from Spain, not from Latin America) but it looks good.

A lot of the changes are under the hood, but Shadow-360 of the UK has posted in our forums several screenshots of the newer and recording-er Video app, as well as new options in the reset screen and a much-improved call log that gives you more options and info on your missed calls and sorts calls by caller. Additionally, Media Sync has <strike>disappeared from the plugged-into-USB options (no surprise, and no loss since iTunes sync hasn’t worked for months anyway)</strike> has been turned off by default, but can be turned on in Settings.

Finally, Verizon wireless is advertising the Palm Pre Plus and Pixi Plus, that’s great news for us webOS followers. But for some reason the carrier wants to enlist our Moms to the webOS platform, saying that these two smartphones are “smart enough for Mom” (see image below).

Now don’t get me wrong here, I really like the idea of my mom and every single mom out there to have a webOS device. But there will be moms who perhaps won’t like the stereotype of this advertisement. In any case, is good to see big red doing some efforts on advertising the Palm Pre Plus and Pixi Plus.

As you can see on the image above, Verizon wants your mom to see the webOS handsets as a helpful device by saying: “They notify without interrupting. They organize on command. They’re nothing like your kids.” Now if big red starts advertising for everyone in general that would be awesome. We also have 2 videos below advertising the Palm Pre Plus for mom, enjoy.

Now that Verizon Wireless will be selling the brand new Palm Pre Plus with more memory and internal storage, is fair to see how it does against the original Pre. The good folks over at Precentral have done a video showing how good both devices do at opening cards (multitasking).

On the video below you’ll see how the multitasking prowess of the new Palm Pre Plus on Verizon compares to the original Palm Pre on Sprint. As you will see, preliminary results for this quick test show how much of a difference that extra RAM make on the newer webOS handset.

As you can see on the image above, the only difference that you can see between the Palm Pre Plus and the first webOS device is the “Home” or “navigation” button. But on the video you’ll see the biggest difference at opening cards, and no, you are not dreaming, the Pre Plus had 50 crads open vs 13 on the original Pre. Now I have to say that on my Pre I can open normally between 15 to 20 cards before getting the dreadful “Sorry, Too Many Cards” message.

As most of you already know, Palm and Adobe had promised before that Flash 10.1 is coming to webOS, we just didn’t have an exact date. We still do not have the exact date, but giving us the month of February is good enough, even more so if video recording capabilities come with it.

Apparently, webOS 1.4 is coming in February, and it will bring along Flash 10.1 and Video recording to the Palm Pre. Flash 10.1 should come built-in, although the beta version should be available “very soon” from the App Catalog itself, for all of us webOS users to download.

And the most important update will be video recording, at least for the great majority of Palm Pre owners, like me for example. Some of the stuff you should be able to do on your Pre will be; upload your videos straight to YouTube, Facebook, email and MMS, as you can see on the image above.

As we all know, the Palm Pixi is coming out to the general public this November 15th 2009. And if you have not seen the video named simply; “Meet Palm Pixi” on Palm’s site, then click on the link so you can get acquainted with the second webOS handset.

And if you are tire of the Palm weird TV commercials of the Pre with Tamara Hope, than you will enjoy the refreshing change on the upcoming TV ad for the Palm Pixi. According to sister site SlashGear, the Palm Pixi ad will begin running this Monday, November 16.

And you can expect to see it on a number of network shows; including Grey’s Anatomy, Dancing with the Stars, House, Saturday Night Live, Top Chef, Gossip Girls and others. Our fearless and adventurer leader Vincent, gives us the tip about the song featured in the spot: “Sleepyhead” by the Boston-based indie band Passion Pit.

Palm PR Derick said:

In the ad, you’ll see that Palm Pixi plays a role as an exciting, relevant product for people who care about staying connected, having fun, and never missing a thing. The message is clear—Palm Pixi is made by people, for people. And it’s quite clear that with our new marketing leadership we’re moving in a different direction from our previous ads, and from other smartphone competitors.
