New in the App Catalog for 28 December 2009

December 29th 2009 | Posted by Derek Kessler

App CatalogSo yesterday brought us a new version of webOS that promises to fix the app limit problem. It also brought us a fancy new version of the App Catalog and expanded app sales to US territories, though not to Canada, Europe, Mexico, and anybody else that happens to have gotten their hands on a Pre. But we’re making progress. And in the light of that progress, Palm also released a few app updates and a new app late yesterday (or early this morning, if you look at it the way we do). It’s a short list, so we’re going to skip the usual “after the break” business and put it right out in the open.

New Apps:

  • Pop n’ Catch, $0.99, by Deep Thought Software: Pop the rising balloons to collect coins, but look out for bomb balloons.

Updated Apps:

  • MiCoqui, $0.99
  • Wabbit Hunt Lite, Free
  • Wabbit Hunt, $1.49

App CatalogSeven hundred eighty. Say that five times fast. That’s how many apps call the webOS App Catalog home these days. Well, at least if you happen to be using a Pre or Pixi on Sprint. We know that Canada, Mexico, Europe, and everybody else that has a webOS phone outside of the US also has significantly fewer apps at hand. Welcome to the beta App Catalog. Have patience, it’ll expand eventually, and hopefully eventually will come soon. In the meantime, we’ve got new apps and updated ones, and the list of it all is after ye olde break.

New in the App Catalog for 10 December 2009

App CatalogAnd just like that, we’re at 675 apps. At this rate, we’re going to hit 1000 by year’s end, no problem. The problem may be the apps themselves, and it feels like an iTunes App Store problem: a bunch of apps with one very specific niche function, and a bunch of apps all with the same function. Yesterday’s apps were loaded with a very specific niche function: tracking the NFL and NHL teams of various cities. But these are the sort of growing pains that we can expect to feel on the way to a large and vibrant developer community, so we’ll list them all anyway, and we’ll do so after the break.
