Walmart Offering the Palm Pre and Pixi with a 4GB MicroSD card…Wait, what?

January 28th 2010 | Posted by Juventino Quinones

For those who want a good deal on a new Palm handset, Walmart wireless online (LetsTalk) is offering the Palm Pre for $79.99 and the Pixi for only $29.99. Now the most interesting part of this is not the price of the webOS devices, but the 4GB microSD card that you’ll get for free [...]

Palm Pixi Goes Down to $22.99 at Walmart, but it Ends Today

November 30th 2009 | Posted by Juventino Quinones

As you all know, the Palm Pixi has been out since November 15th for $99.99 after the regular discounts and rebates, and a two year agreement, of course. But that doesn’t mean that you cannot find a better deal on the web, or on the biggest retailer in the US.

Yes, you are not dreaming, if [...]

Wal-Mart ratchets up price war with Amazon, ratchets down Pre and Pixi prices

November 30th 2009 | Posted by Derek Kessler

Palm Pixi $22.99 at Wal-Mart

If there’s anything that we at PreCentral love to see, it’s two giant retailers going after each other’s price tags in the quest for customer wallets. Lately, mega-box super retailer Wal-Mart and ecommerce monolith Amazon have been going at it, slashing prices back and forth in a battle that shows just how efficient these two companies’ distribution systems are. And with the western front battle over iTunes all sorts of quiet between Palm and Apple, we need some other fight to cheer on, right?

The beneficiaries of all this back-and-forth price cutting is clearly you, the potential customer. Not satisfied with having just matched pricing with Amazon, Wal-Mart has lowered its pricing on both the Sprint Palm Pre and Sprint Palm Pixi be a few dollars to best their online competitor. A Pre will set you back $74.99, while a Pixi from Wal-Mart now costs $22.99. Wal-Mart’s contract renewal and off-contract prices remain unchanged. We can’t say for sure how long this pricing will last; the cheap Pixi deal at Wal-Mart only stayed around for about a week.

Amazon, the ball’s in your court now.

UPDATE: Game, set, match. Amazon has matched Wal-Mart’s prices on the Pre and the Pixi.

Thanks to Eric for the tip!

The Shack Black Friday Deal: Palm Pre for $99.99

November 21st 2009 | Posted by Derek Kessler

Palm Pre at The ShackNext week the holiday shopping season officially kicks into gear, and while this blogger has yet to even consider what to get most people on his list, he can at least tell you that if you’re looking to pick up a Sprint Palm Pre, Black Friday may be your friend. The folks at Radio The Shack will have the Palm Pre (new contracts only) on sale starting at 5:30 am on the day after Thanksgiving for the price of $99.99.

Yeah, that’s more than you’ll pay at Amazon and the same you’ll fork over to Walmart online today, but there’s something to be said for being able to walk out the door with the phone in your hand. Curiously, The Shack will not have any deals on the Palm Pixi, meaning for one cent under a Franklin you can get a Pixi, or a Pixi with a bigger screen, faster processor, smaller form factor, and WiFi (otherwise known as a Pre). Decisions decisions.

Thanks to Drew for the tip!

Pre going for $80 on Amazon

November 19th 2009 | Posted by Robert Werlinger

Deals, deals, deals.  Third party resellers have really been taking a hatchet to the prices of Palm’s webOS powered devices lately. The latest comes from Amazon, who is selling the Pre for $79.99, or a full 20 dollars less than what Sprint is selling the Pixi for directly.  This comes on the heels of both Walmart and WireFly slashing their prices on the Pixi, to $49.95 (previously $30) and $24.95 on a new 2 year agreement respectively, and Canadian reseller WirlessWave dropping the Pre down to $49.95CAD on a 3 year contract.

Thanks to everyone who sent this in!

Pixi from Amazon: $24.99

November 18th 2009 | Posted by Derek Kessler

Palm Pixi on Amazon: $24.99

While the $25 deal at Wirefly is nice, they don’t draw anywhere near as many customers as Walmart does, where the Pixi is going for $29.95. The one retailer that has any hope of customer levels coming near that of Walmart? Amazon, and they’re undercutting Wally World by $5 and selling the Pixi for $24.99 on a new contract. Amazon also has the cheapest off contract price for a Pixi we’ve ever seen: $359.99. At this rate we have to wonder how long it will be before you’re able to get a Pixi for free – and what a huge coup that would be for Palm.

UPDATE: Walmart’s Pixi price has jumped up to $49.99, so Amazon is the better deal by far.

Pre drops to $49.95 in Canada

November 16th 2009 | Posted by Robert Werlinger

Canadians, if you thought the $30 Pixi offered for pre-order by Walmart here in the US was a good deal, hold on to your hats: Bell customers can now get their hands on the Pre for a tidy sum of $49.95 from Canadian reseller WirelessWave on one of those cruel 3 year contracts. But hey, it’s still $50 less than you’ll have to pay to Bell, so that’s worth something, eh?

Pixi to be just $24.95 at Wirefly

November 14th 2009 | Posted by Derek Kessler

Palm PixiIf $100 at Sprint was a deal, and $30 at Walmart a deal, what’s $25? Wirefly, that’s what it is. Online phone retailer Wirefly is launching the Palm Pixi at a price lower than you’ll find anywhere else: $24.95 for new contract customers. Current Sprint customers won’t left out in the cold either – they’ll be able to pick up the Pixi from Wirefly for a mere $99.99 with a renewed contract. Both new customers and current Sprint subscribers will be treated to a rebate-free experience.

It seems that Sprint is really the only place you’ll have to deal with mail-in-rebates, which is a shame as that’s still where most customers will get their phones. But with deals around like this from reputable dealers, there’s little reason to deal with the hassle and cost of buying from Sprint. A new contract customer getting a Pixi from a Sprint store will have to fork over $199.99 out the door and wait weeks to get the $100 rebate back. Getting a Pixi from Wirefly will save you $175 at purchase over Sprint, and at this pricing the Pixi is becoming a dangerous contender in the smartphone sales volume fight.

Note: The Wirefly website will not show the Pixi’s pricing until midnight.

Palm Pixi Review Round-up

November 14th 2009 | Posted by Derek Kessler

Palm Pixi

We at PreCentral weren’t the only ones that got our hands on the Palm Pixi for review. All across the intertubes various tech news outlets got to review the Pixi and the general consensus was this: the Pixi is tiny and, at $100, not that bad. With its super slim design, excellent keyboard, and solid build the Pixi won many fans, but its various drawbacks (lack of WiFi, screen size, slowness) led to many comparisons to the big brother Pre. Check it all out after the break…

Wal-Mart to sell Pixi at rock-bottom $30

November 12th 2009 | Posted by Derek Kessler

Palm Pixi for $29.99 on Walmart Wireless

And we thought that $99.99 at Sprint was a deal! Wal-Mart’s online wireless store has the Palm Pixi up for pre-order at a frightening low price: $29.99 for new contract customers. What would set you back $200 out-the-door (less a $100 mail-in-rebate) at a Sprint store is only $30 at Wal-Mart. As we said, this is for new contract customers only, with a contract renewal Pixi costing a hefty $249.99, and off-contract weighing in at $499.99. Wal-Mart Wireless lists the Pixi for pre-order and as having an estimated in-stock date of November 24th, while Sprint stores and affiliates like Best Buy and The Shack can expect to have it on the 15th, this coming Sunday.
