Actor, thespian, and all-around coolest man on the planet William Shatner has been a Pre user for a while now, and like the coolest man on the planet that he is he’s not afraid to show it off. He did so while taping an informal segment for The New York Times’ online Screen Test series, answering a call from his daughter Melanie. We have to say, we’re both fascinated and disappointed that The Shat uses the stock webOS ringtone, though we can understand that he wouldn’t want to use something so obvious as the Star Trek theme or a communicator chirp. We’re fashionably late to mentioning this, but we figure it’s fitting. See, a couple weeks ago there was some big hootenanny in Hollywood where they gave out awards for TV shows or something. I think they call it the Emmys, and for whatever reason it seems to attract a lot of attention and celebrities. Apparently Palm. The folks from Sunnyvale set up a display backstage at the Emmys this past weekend and showed off the Pre and Pixi to the various Emmy winners, nominees, and mere attendees. They chatted it up with the likes of William Shatner, Michael J. Fox, Dela Delaney, Tracy Morgan, and the ever-excitable Ricky Gervais. Even Emmys host Neil Patrick Harris and How I Met Your Mother co-stars Alyson Hannigan and Cobie Smulders stopped on by. The general reaction from all visitors: these phones are awesome and I want one. Well get in line!

While Palm was showing off the Pixi backstage at the Emmy Awards show, they revealed via Twitter that none other than William Shatner uses the phone:

William Shatner and wife already use Pre. She said: "I love it so much I want to name it." He chose Pixi with Skull back cover.

Is Palm really handing out Pixi Phones to celebrities or are they promising to send them later? Either way, looks like Shatner and his wife are getting the Pixi before the rest of us. Isn’t it enough that he got to use that communicator in Star Trek? Ah, Shatner: he gets the alien girls, he gets the future phones, he wins every legal case, he sings, he writes, …and now we hear that this shaman uses a Pre.

Don’t take this the wrong way, Bill, but if you had won the Emmy last night, the world may have imploded around the singularity of your awesomeness. We know you could have, man, and we appreciate you stepping aside for the good of humanity. Enjoy your Pixi when you get it. [image via trekmovie]
