Missing Sync for Windows Pre-Release Available

August 18th 2009 | Posted by Dieter Bohn

Well, that was fast.  Just a week after Mark/Space posted up their development tracker for the Windows Version of their Missing Sync software, they have made a Pre-Release version of the software available for download.

It doesn’t work with Vista, at all, so don’t try it unless you like bags of hurt.  It does sync over WiFi (not USB), and there are a host of other pre-release issues to contend with.  Knowing Mark/Space, the issues will be sorted out in short order, but if you enjoy testing stuff, take a look at the list of pending issues first and then mosey over to the download page.

Good on Mark/Space for making the Pre-Release build available because of the popular demand – if you give it a shot, please be sure to provide them with as much helpful feedback as possible (emails whose contents consist of "It doesn’t work" or that recapitulate the known bugs don’t count).

Mark/Space posts development tracker for PC Version of The Missing Sync

August 11th 2009 | Posted by Derek Kessler

The Missing Sync for Palm Pre for WindowsWhen The Missing Sync for Palm Pre debuted back in June as a Mac-only application, the question we heard from many of you was “Where’s the PC version?” Fret not, for Mark/Space is hard at work on such a program, and to assuage your local synchronization hunger pangs not fulfilled by PocketMirror they have posted a development tracker for The Missing Sync for Palm Pre for Windows XP and Vista where frequent postings will allow you to follow along as new features are added to the program.

As of this posting, they have managed one-way synchronization of your Outlook contacts and calendars (more comprehensively than the Palm Data Transfer Assistant) with two-way sync promised down the road, folder synchronization, and iTunes playlist music transfers. Next up on their development list are full two-way contacts synchronization and photo transfer capabilities. Mark/Space has also started a private beta program to test out the latest builds of the PC version of The Missing Sync. The Missing Sync is coming to the PC, it’s just not here yet.

Outlook to Palm Pre Synchronization

Mac users and Mark/Space aren’t the only ones getting their local sync on this morning. Chapura has announced a free beta of their own solution for Outlook users on Windows: PocketMirror. Like The Missing Sync, PocketMirror creates a new Synergy profile on your Palm Pre and syncs over your Wi-Fi network. PocketMirror will connect with your Outlook contacts and calendar and port everything seamlessly onto your Pre, and back again when you make an edit. This is great news for all you Outlook users out there!

The PocketMirror beta is available right now in two parts. The Palm Pre component is a free download from your on-device App Catalog, and the desktop component is ready for download (also free) from Chapura’s website.
