Black Friday sales for webOS apps

November 25th 2010 | Posted by Mark Jensen

Black Friday Sale

While we wait for the Palm Pre 2 to arrive domestically on store shelves this holiday season, and webOS 2.0 at some point in "the coming months," webOS apps may be the next best thing. It just so happens that many are currently on sale. So if you’re in the shopping mood, and we assume you are, here are just some of the apps you’ll find on sale this holiday weekend:

These are only a handful of the webOS apps you can find on sale in the Palm App Catalog. To find more sale apps we recommend entering the word "sale" in the app catalog’s search field. Then sort, swipe, and download your way to some great holiday savings. Best part: you don’t have to wait in line for hours to get the best deals!

Best Apps of 2009

December 31st 2009 | Posted by Robert Werlinger

The App Catalog has seen impressive growth since it first went live a little over 6 months ago.  Palm’s Early Access program brought in dozens of developers who have created over 1,000 applications in that time frame, and while we don’t have access to as many apps as other smartphone platforms do, there are a number of high quality ones that fit into all of the important categories.

With that in mind, we’ve created a list of the must have applications that have come our way in 2009.  If you’re new to webOS (you should also see our getting started guide), or have been with the platform for awhile and are unaware of how the Catalog has grown over these last few months, this is a guide for you.

All I want for Christmas (for webOS)

December 24th 2009 | Posted by Derek Kessler

PalmDear Santa,

I know you’re a busy guy and I really should have sent you this letter much earlier, but I know that if anybody could pull off the “Christmas miracle,” it’s you. I’ve tried my best to be a good blogger this year. I know sometimes I’ve aggravated my readers, but I said what I said because I thought it needed to be said. That’s being a good boy, right?

Anyway, I hope that you get this list before you take off from your North Pole base of operations. Below is a list of what I’d really really really like to see on Christmas morning. If it’s not there, I understand, but if it is I promise to be extra good next year. I’m not trying to be greedy, I just want you to know that there’s a lot of stuff that would make me happy. Snow, though one of those things, does not count in the gift tally.

New in the App Catalog for 01 December 2009

December 2nd 2009 | Posted by Derek Kessler

App CatalogIn less than six months Palm’s webOS App Catalog has hit 500 apps, 508 to be specific. How far we’ve come from the heady launch days of only a few dozen and only free apps at that. And how far we yet have to go. So before we get to the list of apps (after the break, as usual), we’d like to take a moment to give a shout out to all the developers that have worked with Palm to make this happen. Without you and your patience with Palm and the evolving App Catalog, we’d never have reached this point. You guys rock.

How much is the App Catalog making for developers?

November 20th 2009 | Posted by Derek Kessler

App Catalog

Many developers are hoping to leverage Palm’s webOS App Catalog for financial gain much like has been done on the iPhone App Store. With a significantly smaller install base than the iPhone, webOS developers do have a bit of ways to go to catch up with their iPhone brethren. But let it not be said that it is impossible to make money in the App Catalog.

We at PreCentral were curious how much money has been made from the App Catalog. The App Catalog does not automatically display download counts, even though the information is still available. Thankfully, the folks at WebOS Internals whipped up a patch that makes those numbers visible, and they are telling.

New in the App Catalog for 14 November 2009

November 15th 2009 | Posted by Derek Kessler

App CatalogWith the weekend’s webOS 1.3.1 update came a whole slew of apps updated to match. Several new apps, including the much-awaited Facebook app, were included in the app drop, which was more reminiscent of carpet bombing than a precision strike. Yeah, there are that many updates. So many that the list extended off my computer screen, spilled over the edge of my desk, and splattered all over the floor. It’s a mess, and all it’s waiting for you after the break.

Air Hockey in the App Catalog

Update 9:54 Eastern: Palm has pulled nearly all of the paid apps (we see only Checkers Pro) while they fix what we understand from the folks at webos-internals to be a critical security bug. We’ll update again when we have more.

What a long (but surprisingly quick) road it’s been, but the time is finally here. Welcome to the world of paid webOS applications! Starting at about 4 PM EST today, paid applications made their entry into the App Catalog, starting with the $1.99 Air Hockey from Acceleroto, the same company behind the popular Air Hockey game for the iPhone (though this version appears to be limited to just player-vs-phone for now).

This is the first of what we expect to be many and numerous paid apps for the Pre, but when we’ll see more is anyone’s best guess.

  • Who Wants To Be A Millionaire from Capcom Interactive, $4.99.
  • BlockDrop by Daniel Farina, $4.99. Our First Palm Pre Homebrew Paid app! Congrats!
  • Weatherbug Elite hits for $1.99, live, local maps from WeatherBug – configurable background updates too.
