Fed Up, A Mac Developer Quits The iPhone

July 31st 2009 | Posted by kindaskimpy

iphone3283829I told you all earlier about Michael Arrington quitting his iPhone and heading for the Pre when a Google Voice app for it is released. Apparently he’s not the only one ditching the iPhone and heading towards the Palm Pre. Steven Frank isn’t an iPhone developer… he doesn’t make iPhone apps for the very reasons people are up in arms about the Apple App Store lately but he is Mac developer and co-founder of the OS X development house Panic. It’s no secret that, just like most Mac users and developers… he’s a Mac enthusiast… you might even call him a fanboy. So it might surprise you to know he’s leaving behind his woes with Apple and AT&T and seeking the greener, friendlier pastures of Sprint and the Palm Pre.

On his blog, Steven vented his frustrations. “I’m furious with Apple and AT&T right now, with regard to the iPhone,” he started the blog saying, “I’ve reached a point where I can no longer just sit back and watch this. The iPhone ecosystem is toxic, and I can’t participate any more until it is fixed. As people have told me so many times: It’s Apple’s ballgame, and Apple gets to make the rules, and if I don’t like it, I can leave. So, I don’t like it, and I’m leaving.” Then going on to explain why he was fed up and effectively boycotting anything with iPhone OS on it. To conclude he stated, “I realize these actions are utterly insignificant to Apple. I know I’m a tiny tadpole flapping his tail helplessly in anger at the ocean. But at least my conscience is clear. I hope change is coming.”

I hope change is coming too… for Apple’s sake. I don’t wish them any harm… they’re an innovative company with a fantastic product lineup and a growing user base… but the minute they stop taking their customers’ dissatisfaction seriously, is the minute they start losing those loyal followers they are famous for.
